Attack of the the tiny consumers, or, hate mail from Bratz fans
I underestimated the power of Bratz (TM).
Hits to this site have gone up about a million percent since I posted twice about Bratz dolls. Many are downloads of one of the Bratz photos I posted. I think it’s being used as an avatar.
The Two Knives mailbag is also feeling the power of Bratz fans:
I like Bratz. I have been collecting ever since they came out. I turned 11 last week. You people are rude for saying bad stuff about them!
yoo people r sik 4 finkin tht bratz r sexy i luv bratz the make up just makes them mur intresting 4 the girls who buy them ,skirts well they look nice on the dolls i mean bratz r just a doll a fantasie they wud wanna look like but they calnt
you suck and BRATZ rock poop-head
Fans with a more positive message are also writing:
the bratz sasha have a name of me!!!!!!! I love Sasha!
I love bratz and your bratz website
I don’t know if these are actual kids writing to me or if this is some sort of MGA Entertainment-sponsored spam. But I’m looking into it.
The blogosphere continues to ramp up its fight against the assumptions that these dolls represent:
Tracy at Whim thinks we should let family and friends know how we feel about Bratz dolls before gift-giving occasions.
IzzyMom encourages us to take part in the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood’s call to remove Bratz books from school book fairs.
Tracee at So Sioux Me puts her foot down when she finds out that her preschooler’s soccer team name is “The Bratz.” (Are you effin’ kidding me?)
And Two Knives? For one, no more posting Bratz doll photos. And did I mention that I’ve got some big plans? BIG PLANS.

I think those letter writers, assuming they’re for real, need to slowly step away from the Bratz and pick up some books with real words, spelled out in their entirety, and READ THEM! *gasp*
Thanks for the shout-out :)

HAY GUYZ I luv ur site it is awesome and so r teh Bratz!1!!
I sort of think of things like this as the internet version of the angry mob with torches and pitchforks, except none of the people are very bright and they all just sort of amble slowly off in no particular direction.

Hmm well I guess I know how to get some more traffic to my blog, although it would not last. I am with Izzy, those hate male writers need to learn how to spell, it will make people take them a little bit more seriously.

HAHA! I can’t believe you’re being e-mail bombed by kids! That is SO funny! Not so funny, though, that kids can’t spell or use punctuation anymore. That’s sad. Maybe if their toys were a bit more educational…

I am so glad I don’t even really know what they are (yet.)

I did a post last May about Bratz and I get the same type of spam. I’m sure it’s spam b/c what 11yo actually reads Mom blogs? Give me a break.
We stand firm against The Bratz franchise here. They are completely unacceptable and inappropriate.

I am with Chilihead. What mother would let her 11 year old on the computer alone or allow her to read MommyBlogs? I had to laugh at the emails you posted. I personally do allow my 8 yr old to have Bratz but she is more in to Barbie. Bratz in my book look rediculous but I am ok with her playing with them as long as she doesn’t aspire to look like them.

Can we also blame Bratz for the continued breakdown of the English language as displayed by your ‘fan’ emails?!
Insights (open-discussion public affairs show in Australia) had an episode on Bratz and adolescent marketing and sexualisation on the other week. Transcript available here:

I refuse to buy these dolls for my nieces - besides which, they prefer playing with trucks!
