Bratz girls are not sexy and you’re sick for thinking so

Shocking, shocking news from the American Psychological Association: the Bratz doll brand sexualizes little girls.

The problem of sexualizing young girls is obviously much larger than the dolls. But the study does cite specific examples, including:

. . . dolls (e.g., Bratz dolls dressed in sexualized clothing such as miniskirts, fishnet stockings, and feather boas), clothing (thongs sized for 7– to 10-year-olds, some printed with slogans such as “wink wink”), and television programs (e.g., a televised fashion show in which adult models in lingerie were presented as young girls).

The crazy thing about this is the reaction from the Bratz makers, as quoted in the Washington Post:

Isaac Larian, whose company makes the large-eyed, pouty-lipped Bratz dolls, says, “Kids are very smart and know right from wrong.”

Which is why parents and other morality teachers are really non-essential, since five-year-olds can make their way by themselves. We’ve heard these self-serving rationalizations from the Bratz bullshitters before.

“Not once have we ever heard one of our consumers call Bratz ’sexy.’ ” Some adults “have a twisted sense of what they see in the product,” Larian says.

He’s right, because I’ve always associated excessive makeup, dangling earrings, and silicone-injected lips with scientists. And mathematicians. And they’re not sexy.

“It is the parents’ responsibility to educate their children,” he adds. “If you don’t like something, don’t buy it.”

Right on, Doc Larian. No problem there.

bratz2.jpgThe best thing that came out of working on today’s post, however, was the discovery of the blog Packaging Girlhood, created as a companion site to Sharon Lamb and Lyn Mikel Brown’s book Packaging Girlhood: Rescusing our Daughters from Marketers’ Schemes. Rats. I thought I was writing that book. Oh well. And note, we don’t agree on everything: they like the Dove ad campaigns. I don’t.

  1. Char Says:

Bratz are not welcome in our house. If the girls get them for presents, they are immediately returned. I opened a Bratz baby that one of my girls got early on - it was wearing a THONG - excuse me! There is nothing cute, fun or healthy about those dolls.

We prefer American Girl dolls - a lot more wholesome and my 8 year old knows more about history now as a result.

  2. Mel the Mohel Says:

My teenagers were pre-Bratz and post-Blatz , a true tragedy. So I know only what I read in Two Knives. And I have to ask, what’s up with those pencil legs, let alone the micro skirts? Are these the Anorexia Blatz, the Bulimic Blatz, the Auschwitz Blatz, and the Heroin Chic Blatz?

From what I read a few months ago, these gals would be booted off the glamour runway in Madrid.

    Who finds these dolls cute?

  3. StealthBadger Says:

    Um.

    -_-

That’s almost as scary as when you see a ten-year-old (approximately) in the mall, with her parents, in mini-skirt, heeled shoes, and makeup.

Those lips are a pictoral definition of hyperbole, but not in a good way.

  4. Kayla Says:

I like Bratz. I have been collecting ever since they came out. I turned 11 last week. You people are rude for saying bad stuff about them!

  5. Two Knives Says:

Kayla, at this point, I’m not sure if you’re really an eleven-year-old girl. I think not. But if you are, you shouldn’t be using your name (even your first name!) to comment on a stranger’s blog!

  6. Haley Says:

you guys really need to look around. these girls arent getting it from the dolls. its movies, and actresses and even their bigsisters too! they see us older sisters growing up, dressing a bit different than they’re used to. and its not like we all dress slutty, but they see a skirt and say mommy i wanna wear a skirt. they see a tank top, they see a halter top, and bikinis and think well if they can wear them why cant we. and kids these days are being more and more spoiled that mommy goes right out and buys them. and like Stealth Badger said, they’re walking around “With mom and dad” in all this shit… look who’s to blame there? If the kids are dressing like this, its not the kids fault. yeah, they asked to wear it, but the parents didnt have to let them. my mom and dad didnt let me wear make-up till 13. easy rule, but my little sister is breaking that rule constantly, and nothing against my parents, my little sister is a prep in training no doubt. she only had 2 maybe three of these dolls and after about a week, she was bored with them anyway, so its not the doll’s fault, its the parents.

  7. Two Knives Says:

Haley, thank you so much for writing. And I couldn’t agree with you more. Parents have the ultimate responsibility. I’ve heard other parents talk about the “second child syndrome” — where they know they are being more lax with the second child than they were with the first. I’ve been trying very hard not to do that with my girls.

You are right, Bratz dolls are not all to blame. Maybe they are just a reflection of popular culture. However, I still think the company that makes them has to take responsibility and own up to the fact that the Bratz dolls are slutty looking and are not good “models” for young girls.

You write well and think critically. Keep it up.

  8. Brittany Says:

Im from norfolk ,va im 13 about to be 14 im very suprised at these negatives comment im reading about the bratz i really enjoy playing with these cool high fashion diva dolls and i dont think that they are slutty in anykind of way beacuse i go to a very crazy middle school and i see worst dressing teens than that and mind you were at school so no i dont think bratz are a problem i think its just another way to reach tweens and teens really would you rather have your daughter inside playing with dolls or out side with some boy or smoking or doing somthing that’s popular at this point i believe that lots of people dont like bratz beacause of the way the took over barbie people are just mad beacause barbie was here so long but when you walk in to walmart you see nothing but bratz and barbie somewhere in the backshelf hideden somewhere. I love bratz beacause it has a varitey of ethnithcy and a wide range of styles wheras barbie only reach the white people and when they did have a black barbie she alwayz looked ugly or unatractive so cut the crap becauze if you would be true to yourself you know bratz isnt doing anything but give girls sumthin to play with .And you need to get real and realize bratz isnt doing anything but fitting into society’s norm.

just realize it isnt bratz it’s society

  9. Bratz Fan Says:

Whatever! Bratz are NOT bad! If the parents dont like them then they shouldnt buy them! Adults act like us kids are going to copy everything we see and alot of us wont! Kids are smater than what adults seem to think! Bratz movies are good and so is the show. The dolls are fine the way they are! I cant wait untill the movie with real people comes out. Anyways, I like Bratz and you’re not going to change that!

  10. Angelz101HDB Says:

I am a Bratz collector, along with my best friend. We are 13, and are actually the most immature in the class. we do not see bratz as skanky, but more as a cute display for our otherwise boring room. We never want to dress like them, or wear that much make-up. I think that the problem is more big sisters, not the dolls, as Haley said. Another of my friends has an older sister and is totally into make-up, short skirts and skimpy tops. She doesn’t even own a Bratz. So everyone who disses Bratz dolls has a lesson to learn in my opinion: Is it really the dolls to blame? No. Who would want to dress like a doll anyway? If parents don’t like Bratz, then why do they buy them? Isn’t that just stupid? And also, Barbies are no less skimpier. They too wear bikinis and halter tops these days. Bratz are not to blame!

  11. sweetheart Says:

ok i collect bratz dolls and i think they are cool. i may like them but i dont wear what they do. i agree that they may sexulize girls but as kayla said you are being over the top i mean if people started a blog about something you made and reckoned it was bullshit you would be upset and as always it is the parents decision. just coz the parents let them dress like bratz and purchase their merchandise doesn’t mean the they are bad parents. like my mum doesn’t care. and for god sake stop being so hypercrtical.

  12. roxxi Says:

go sweetheart! i agree with everything. just tell it like it is girl! thanks for standind up and i am 100% by your side

  13. sweetheart Says:

    are you all listening?

  14. Naisha Says:

I think that the bratz dolls dress unaprpriatly. But if the parents don’t like it then yuo should not buy it.They are just dolls. And the parents should teach theire kids that dressing like the dolls is wrong.

  16. what Says:

you guys are so stupid its sickening.. how wan you say no to something that you are doing exactly your selves…you people are actually going to make that big of a deal over a thong? get real. So if they would of came out with a gay doll that showed a little of the stomach, you probably would make a huge deal over that too…You are so concerned over a little piece of clothing that you pervs shouldn’t even be getting your jollies off anyway. and half of you wouldn’t of paid any attention untill that one stuck up b***,because thats what she is said something. then all of a sudden you all started playing follow the leader. get a life

  17. EJ Says:

all this bull** over a doll man if bratz are “sexualizing” girls then what are barbies doing. Look at hem they hav the perfect body, did u no that only 3 out of a million girls will have barbies figure. now that if that isnt telling young girls to be skinny then i dont no wat is> SO LAY OFF BRATZ they really arent tha bad. If people want to dress their children like it or even dress themselves like it so be it its there **** desision.

  18. Kate Says:

I completely agree with this article.

I infact have a younger sister and she was heavily into Bratz Dolls a few years back. We’d play with them together and every so often ( but each time we’d play with them), she’d say, ” I wish I looked like this one”, and she’d hold up one of her dolls.
My sister is of average weight and size, but she feels that in order for “boys to like her” ( which in grade 5 is code for being “socially acceptable”), she must look like a Bratz doll.

They create a very unhealthy body image, even for myself.

  19. cuteycourt Says:

I love the bratz dolls so i don`t know why you are bull*ing about bratz just give kids an attitude for them to be confident i`m 12 and i`m a bratz collecter ,why all of a sudden dolls are bad everyone knows they are just intertaining there are not the ones to blame it`s the parents who are spoiling the kids.My mum doesn`t give **** about the bratz she even let`s me dress like them if i wanted if you don`t like them why do you pay attention to them

  20. Two Knives Says:

Cuteycourt, EJ, and What: Thanks for writing! I’ve edited your comments to remove the unnessary offensive language. You might want to read on, as I did write something more recently about the Bratz collectors that you may find not quite as infuriating as this post is.

  21. Jessie Says:

    You got it all wrong.
    I am 16 and I am skinny,
stuff like this makes girls who are skinny and cant help it,
    feel like ***.
    so go **** yourself!

  22. Two Knives Says:

Jessie, what do you mean by “stuff like this?” Nowhere in my post do I mention weight or body image. Not sure where you’re coming from or why it made you so angry.

    Language cleaned up for posting.

  23. Prisicla Says:

You people are so wrong,DOC larian is right,If you dont like it Dont buy it..For heavens sake I love Bratz and I dont care what they freakin wear

  24. Ethics Prof Says:

For the Bratz apologists, take a look at Juliet Schor’s well-documented book Born to Buy: The Commercialized Child and the New Consumer Culture (Scribner, 2004). The most insidious and unyielding power is one with an existence that is ignored or fiercely denied.

Bratz don’t affect the perceptions of those who want them? Identifying with brands and products has been a well studied American trend since the 1950s. Bratz defenders, you’ve been duped.

  25. Kool Kat Says:

I think the bratz are the best thing that ever happend to me ! An so does my cousin and 3 of my best friends! We are all 11-12! In my opinion I think bratz were designed to be a fun doll that tweens and teens would enjoy too when they grow out of barbies (thats what happend to us)! I dont think they affect people I think its the celebrities and movie stars that influence younger girls to dress like that! Lastly not all bratz dolls dress in short skirts they wear pants and you can get them long skirts and non belly showing shirts!

  26. Sue Says:

    Kool Kat,
Can you get them with noses and lips that don’t look like they’ve been injected with a pound of silicone? These dolls scare me when they are bought for children. They have huge heads, and teeny bodies and look like Nicole Richie at her worst stage of anorexia..oops I mean “exhaustion”. This is what the media is telling the young girls of today is beautiful. Barbie, while she was the “perfect woman” at least looked relatively normal, and the Barbie company has even broadened her hips and lessened her chest a bit so that she looks even more realistic. Yes, she is still fake, plastic and hard to achieve, but she looks human. These Bratz dolls look like something out of a mental institution ward…the eating disorder area.

  27. pretty princess Says:

No you can’t get them without big lips but the fashion pixies have smaller lips and heads! :)

  28. Kool kat Says:

I agree with pretty princess thanks for answering sues question cousin!

  29. alie cat Says:

Hi I love bratz but I can understand why some people hate them I still dont thnk its right tho to want to take them off the shelves of stores because then people that like bratz wnt be able to buy them!

  30. Baby Doll Says:

I think that I love to make these Bratz and cut theryre pants into skirts and shorts and turn the rest of the leggings part of the pant into a jackete you people are sooo rude saying this beutiful brat doll of mine is a sexual affence I really really love bratz dollz i think they are good for older kids around 10-18 to express emotions barbie to express dreams for ages 5-9. Bratz are very interesting to these 11 and 10 year old girls (some boys) yes they may have thongs but some have underwear now so like and the boys wear under wear now also. so why are they sexualy bad i just think that they are for the ages 10-15 that know that stuff.AND I LOVE MY PASSION FOR FASHION CLOE AND I AM 11

  31. Kat To the round Says:

I agree with Baby Doll but I have a Magic Hair Jade and i love her and i dont see how they will be able to get rid of bratz a lot of my friiends of mine and theyrs like love them so how could they?????????

  32. kool kat Says:

By the way I have 29 bratz dolls and I! i agree with baby doll 100%

  33. kool kat Says:

I cant wait for the bratz movi comes out and me and my cousin will go see it!

  34. tgqroyal_enchantress Says:

To be honest I think the biggest issue here is the fact a lot people are tired of seeing so much sex out in the world…in movies, on TV, in clothing in schools (whether middle or high school) and anywhere around their kids….. Can you imagine how many people (parents in general) would be glad not to have to worry about any kind of sexual influence on their children from scociety and media? I’d be happy to see way less of it that’s for sure. I don’t hate sex but I am very tired of seeing the woman’s body being the subject of sex, and making a lot of us feel like we have to keep up with scociety’s idea of what we should look like.

The bratz dolls aren’t to blame but mostly, THEY DON’T HELP. They just add to everything out there. The bratz appearance effects everyone in their own way. Just as beauty, offensiveness is in the eye of the beholder. I don’t totally agree with the dolls no, if that’s what anyone thinks, but for me it’s a personal chip on my shoulder for these dolls as right about at the time they came out I had had a similar idea with the name Bratz only spelled a different way and not in the form dolls but fun clothing like T-Shirts and jeans.

    Thanks for listening!

I love bratz! They are the best!

  36. as if Says:

Why do you even give a flying you know what about a line of dolls that you and a bunch of other groups (whoever the blankety blank blank they may be) find offensive? And by the way, why is it you expect everyone here to talk in nice clean language but then on your own blog you use foul language? Practice what you preach. I already edited my post so delicate little virgin ears and eyes won’t be hurt.

  37. as if Says:

Oh incidentally I know it’s YOUR blog but still you should lead by example and quit whining and crying. Go ahead and ban me I won’t care.

  38. Two Knives Says:

hey as if, you are right about the language thing — I actually thought about that as I edited those comments — I guess bad language is in the eye of the beholder, huh?

btw, I’m curious — what brought you to my site?

  39. as if Says:

    Why should I tell you?

  40. alie cat Says:

I agree 100% with As if.

  41. Rachel Says:

That is not true. You guys dont actually know what kids think. Kids dont think of the Bratz as sexy, unless their parents, siblings, friends or anybody says the words sexy, or tells them what the word sexy is.
So that obviously means that its the media, the parents, the families, and the friends that cause it, NOT the dolls!

Ive played with Bratz dolls, and never thought they were “sexy” “slutty” or “whores” until people starting complaining that their children will start to acts like whores if they play with Bratz. So pretty much, people are egging it on, it never actually happened. My sister and I played with Bratz for years, and I still do, and we are both not tramps. Parents need to remember that kids may repeat what they see, but the kids dont actually know what it means. Tell your child what and what not to do. The DOLL isnt the parent, YOU are the parent. Remember, you cant depend on the doll to raise your child right, YOU need to raise your child right.

Bratz didnt give birth to your child, you did, so its your responsibility.

I am 13, Im the kid, I see it how it is. Im the one who’s supposed to think of Bratz as whores. And I dont, it merely proves some of the adults wrong.

I remember when I went and bought my first Bratz doll, I was like 8 or 7 or 6. I never thought of her as slutty or anything! My sister and I would buy them all the time, we had a whole collection!

  42. ALL OF YOU ARE CRAZY Says:

ALL THE PARENTS I UNDERSTAND THAT YOU DONT THINK THERE SLUTTY FOR WHEREING MINI SKIRTS BUT IF YOU HAVENT NOTICED THAT MOST PRE TEENS WEAR MINI SKIRTS I AM 14 I USE TO PLAY WITH THEM AND IM FIND IM NOT SEXUALLY CTIVE IM NORMAL JUST LIKE THE TEENS MY AGE ANDTHJESE DOLLS DONT DO ANYTHING BUT PEOPLE LIKE PARIS HILTON LINDSAY LOHAN NICOLE RICHIE PAMELA ANDERSON AND SO ON WILLL LEAVE A MARK ON YOUR KIDS IFYOU DONT WANT YOUR KIDS TO LEARN ABOUT SEXUALLITY THEN YOU MIGHT HAVE TO MAKE THEM BLIND AND DEAF BECAUSE ITS ALL AROUND THEM AND IF YOU DONT LIKE THE DOLLS WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU BUY THEM SO STOP HATING ON THE BRATZ BECAUSE LAST TIME I CHECKED THEY DONT HAVE BRAIN AND ARENT ABLE TO BRAIN WASH YOU DAUGHTERS TO HAVE SEX AND ACT SEXY AND HEARS A TIP IF YOU DONT WANT THEM EVER ACT A LITTLE SEXY(BECAUSE IT WILL HAPPEN)SEND THENM TO A CONVENT GOT IT SO JUSTGET THE FCUK OFF THERE BACKS BECAUSE NO ONE CARES

  43. Mel the Mohel Says:

Not only that, but playing with those dolls sure seems to benefit spelling and sentence structure.

  44. angel Says:

hey what the hell why are these people doing this to their little girl they are not letting their children do what they wanna do if they wanna have bratz dolls you should let em i mean cmon it isn’t as if they are real they are just plastic i am 12 and i love bratz i collect them and if u have watched the movies it is all about following your dreams and never giving up until you got there so if you are a parent who doesn’t let your girl have a bratz doll if sh wants one you are a sick phyco and a bad parent p.s their make up is to give them charectar (i think i spelt that wrong) i mean you wouldn’t want a plain doll oh yh i liked bratz 4 6 years ever since they came out and … well i am not a slag or a whore so that mens you am calling me a slag you fuc*** bast**** thanks for istening.

  45. al Says:

I am 12 and have been playing with bratz for over 3 years. I am not a sl** and I think bratz dolls are great. I know about 10 girls that play with these dols and none of them act or dress skimpy because of these dolls actually the girls that dont play with them act even more skimpy that we do! I is celebs and teenage girls around the girls that make them want to dress skimpy. Girls also might be getting it from video games. BRATZ ARENT TO BLAME!!!!!

  46. BRATZLOVER Says:

Hey whoever reads this pleeze reply,
i think bratz dollz are sooo cool i love them and now have 40 somethin and get new bratz often. For the bratz haters u ppl shoulldnt try and get rid of the bratz dollz cuzz manny ppl like themm and just becuuz u dont doesnt mean that the bratz should b gone. Bratz are somewhat slutty but come on ppl just becuuz someone has a bratz doll doesnt mean they r gonna want to dress like one gawshh well bratz r cool end of discussion=)

  47. Dr. A Freewell Says:

I think that Barbie dolls are slim and are good for little girls. Bratz are not designed for little girls; they are for older girls. I have never seen a thong with wink wink on and I think young girls are not being sexualised. What I think is sexualising young girls is all the Playboy in stores right now. Bratz dolls are beautiful. The thongs you think that the dolls are wearing are actually shorts under their skirt, known as ’skort’. I have children of my own and these dolls certainly don’t sexualise young girls.

Also, a child expert in the US (M. Heritage) said, “These dolls are a lot better than a Barbie, because they actually have weight and fashion”

    Dr. A Freewell

Alice Freewell, Scientist of Social world

  48. Justice Says:

I agree with Dr. A Freewell, Bratz do not sexualize girls, the are fashionable girls with self expression.I have not seen thongs for little girls, and although I am only 11 myself and have a thong, thats a lot different than a girl that is seven. All these dolls are doing is keeping up with the fashion in recent times to appeal to older girls and there is nothing wrong with that.

  49. Justice Says:

I think that if Bratz are bad (which I do not believe) that Barbie is even worse. She has been corrupting girls for like half a century saying that they have to be super skinny and super tall. Barbie has pretty much always been white, and being black myself I am offended that most of the Black barbies are not very pretty, exept for the very expensive collectors Barbies that are black. Also, for everyone who critisizes Bratz’ lips, why don’t you critisize Angelina Jolie? She has huge lips. I just feel like this is a waste of time. If you don’t like Bratz then don’t buy them, but don’t just trash them on the internet.

  50. Justice Says:

Lastly, I really do not want Bratz off the shelf. No one is making you buy your child a Bratz doll so if you do not want your kid to have one don’t buy one but please don’t ruin it for the rest of us.
    Thanks C:

    Hi Lisa,

I think it’s great what you are doing with your Parents for Responsible Marketing web site. As the parent of a fashion-aware 13 year old girl, I can tell you that marketing has run amok with her. She’s a good kid, but certainly wants a lot of stuff she shouldn’t have. I think the main thing for parents to remember is its their job to say NO in a way that won’t make our kids hate us. It’s almost impossible to stop the marketing assault. Maybe the best we can do as parents is make it an opportunity to teach our children discernment. That means involved parenting. For some perspective on Bratz grrrls, check out this ad from England. http://veryfunnyads.com/ads/24902.html

  53. Amy Says:

I am an adult collector of bratz (23) and i personaly belive they were made for girls ages 16-25, I dont think girls should dress like them but i dont see anything wrong with playing with them. I think they were a big hit beacuse they ARE very beautiful and sooo difrent than normal dolls…but girls know they are DOLLS, originaly based after cartoon artwork, do you think a girl would think she could look like her sailor moon doll? (japanese anime charicter) not posible! barbie is difrent beacuse she was based off of a human woman, not a cartoon. I love Bratz, if a younger girl wants bratz buy her bratz kidz, they are safe and more intended for younger girls. i do think bratz babyz are too sassy, they should act lke babies. i think bratz ARE fashionable, (wayyy more than barbie) for OLDER girls and adult doll collectors, I think it woud be wrong to buy a girl 13 and under a bratz unless it was bratz kidz if they are already impresionable. that stuff about silocone injected lips is retarted. they are based off cartoons. plus i dont see you dissing my scene barbie that copied bratz and looks alot the same with the big lips. they will never get rid of bratz because they are too popular by mostly adult collectors belive me i know women who have like 200+ bratz.

  54. Libs Says:

To “Amy”,bratz dolls weren’t made for 16-25 year olds. Which 16 and above year old girls have you seen playing with dolls, apart from the doll collectors?? why would it be wrong to buy a 13 year old girl one of them?? 13 year olds already know about sex and all that stuff so a plastic doll isn’t going to harm them in any way.

Anyway as someone stated.. i think it is just jealously because of the way the Bratz dolls have pushed barbie into the darkness. I say.. if you don’t like them then don’t buy them… but don’t keep on ranting on about them being a bad influence when in reality, they are just a bunch of plastic artwork models.
Blame teenage girls in the media and your bad parenting skills.
A plastic doll doesn’t influence the human mind in any way. That’s just rubbish and the people who suggest this as a fact are fools.
So to end… if you don’t like bratz dolls don’t buy them….. i’m sure poor barbie is crying her eyes out for the attention she wants back.

  55. Amy Says:

For you information “Libs” the bratz are suposed to BE 16 as stated on the bratz website. plus i said don’t buy them for girls 13 and under **IF THEY ARE IMPRESIONABLE** if you even know what that means. and anyway who are you to know if a 16 or older girl plays with dolls i know quite a few! and if you couldnt tell i was DEFENDING bratz.

  56. aSOCCERgirl Says:

    Hello,
I am in Middle School, and I enjoy playing with Dolls. I have a Variety of dolls (Barbie, Bratz, and Winx Club, and Sailor Moon type Dolls) I enjoy
Playing with my dolls. I do think that Some Bratz dolls do have short skirts and wear a lot of Make-up, but i think they are cool. Playing with these dolls do not make me want to go dress like them. I wear pants and Soccer shorts to school. I do not wear short skirts and shorts. I don’t like them and my mom will never let me wear them. As for the make-up, yes the dolls do wear a lot make-up, but i don’t wear make-up at all. I once asked my mom if she would get mad at me if i wore make up and she simply said a little lip gloss and mascara wouldn’t bother me. I still don’t wear make up . I don’t have the perfect body, yes i am very muscular, but i’m not perfect. The Bratz bodies do not bother me. One more thing, The Winx dolls I play with are as just revealing as the Bratz dolls. (short skirts, shirts show stomach, ect.) So Most dolls made in this day all get a little more mature. One thing that i like about Bratz dolls is that Some Bratz dolls have Moles. Or Realistic Face features. You don’t see that on Barbie dolls. So For the people who believe that playing with a Bratz doll will make a Little girl go and dress that way actually depends on the Parent. If they allow their girl to dress that way, then its their fault. By the way, Is the foul language Necassary?

And then of course, we go from sexualized dolls to sexualized ‘living dolls’ with Victoria Beckham draping her legs akimbo out of a shopping sack…in this NYTimes piece, “when is a fashion ad not a fashion ad?”

gee, ladies…I’d say that applies to Bratz, Bimbo.com, Pussycat Dolls and other highly sexualized tripe …”when is a woman not a woman?” When she’s an object. Bleh. ‘yummy mummy?’ And females as fodder at every age? Grok that damage, Bratz doll babes…bleh.

  60. dreamer Says:

Well, you know all of you grown ups out there I think you can be just a little over protective. We kids are smart enough to choose what to wear and not to wear!!! I’ve been taught better than to wear inapropiette clothing, and I live with my mother and little sister. Besides, it’s the peaple who make the clothing for us fault they should know better!!!! Bratz are better than barbies,I mean have you seen how big barbies breast are?! Parents I hope you are reading this, because you know we are right about the whole thing.

  61. dreamer Says:

and you know what else, this whole fight about bratz and barbies is stupid! The companies are acting like kids! let’s just cut to the chase, bratz send a message about friendship and never giving up. But barbie sends a message about beleiving in fairytales and princesses. So what if they wear ” trampy” clothing atleast theirs no kissing.I do have to agree with soccergirl 100%.bratz also have a good personality.

  62. Elizaveta Says:

A lot of these were written by kids my age. I am 12, and I think Bratz are absolutely disgusting. I think these kids who commented are not old/mature enough to really know what effect these toys have on girls. If you know that they aren’t real, fine, but for little girls who can’t distinguish that yet, those dolls can be dangerous, ESPECIALLY the babies.

    P.S. Learn to spell, please.

  63. Elizaveta Says:

THE POINT HERE IS, people, that if you know you sholdn’t go around dressing like that, great, good for you, but there are little girls who don’t know any better and who have parents who just buy them things without talking to them about it. It’s for THEM, not you, that we’re here. Maybe if you got shopping out of your tiny brains and focused a little more on what really matters, you’d see what I’m talking about.

  64. Elizaveta Says:

Yes, I know I spelled shouldn’t wrong. It was a typo.

  65. Divine Angel Kitty Says:

I love bratz best. if you ask this queston: WHY? Here is the answer.
Barbie is a slut, and no matter how hard barbie tries, she’ll never win. Bratz forever will win, and nobody can take over them. I HATE BARBIE: SHE COPIED BRATZ! And most of her movies are boring : Fairytales, everytime! But Bratz movies are things that can happen in real life. Just like the forever diamondz movie. Mandy runs off with sharidan’s designs in the america rocks fashion show thing. you should watch it if you havent already!!! And PS: It’s sumthing that can happen in real life. Like i said, if you havent watchd, it yet, watch it if you havent already! it’s 2009, not the 90s. so get that vid if u can! ps: barbie is lame. she doesn’t have what bratz have.

  66. Divine Angel Kitty Says:

if you have any barbie cds, get rid of them. they’re trash. they always talk about silly fairytales that cannot happen. well, sometimes. but whu cares! just get rid of them. get more bratz ones. this is counting on your cd shelf. if you keep adding barbie cds, the cd shelf will weep and cry! if you get more bratz ones, the cd shelf will stay happy! so make sure your cd shelf doesn’t use any tissues ;-)

  67. Divine Angel Kitty Says:

hey farin, dont mind if i do
